Allen Jones RA was born in Southampton in 1937. He studied at Hornsey College of Art, London and the Royal College of Art. He was one of the first Pop artists, and in 1970 produced one of his most famous works, the glass topped table supported by the sculpture of a kneeling woman. Jones's preference was for glamour and style, beautiful women visualised erotically and stereotypically as in glossy magazines, advertisements and cartoon strips.
