Nicky Browne: 2009 art auction

Art auction raises over £14,000!

The 2010 art auction at York House was the most successful in the Trust's history.

Amongst the big sellers were works by Mary Fedden, Chris Orr, Dame Laura Knight, Allan Halliday and Anthea Craigmyle as well as Liz Knutt, Anne Swankie and Jill Storey. A top seller was the auction’s featured picture, Jim Woodman’s Richmond Bridge in the Evening Sun.

Said Auctioneer and Fine Art Dealer John Iddon: 'We deliberately had fewer lots this year and kept the quality high. We had slightly fewer people attending, but the interest was fantastic and the results spoke for themselves, outstripping last year.

'We couldn’t have done it without the continued generosity of local artists as well as those more established artists who so generously donated their work for the benefit of the Trust. And of course the people of Richmond and beyond who turned up to bid, including a couple who travelled up from South Wales because they had enjoyed the auction so much last year.'

Thank you!

The Trustees of the Environment Trust would like to thank all the artists who so generously donated their work for the auction. In addition, pictures were kindly donated by Jack Betteridge, Tricia Brown and Martin and Heather Edgar.

The art auction team were: John Iddon, Jenny Pearce, Ros Newby, Linden Loader and Yvonne Hewett. The catering team was led by Gill Mercer, and Derrick Mercer provided the wine. Nicky Browne donated some of her drawings of previous auctions to decorate the rooms and the cover of the catalogue, and we're grateful to her and everyone else who has helped in ensuring that the Art Auction continues to be the Trust's most important annual fundraising event.
