PRACTICAL VOLUNTEERING

If you like to spend time out of doors and would like to develop your gardening and conservation skills, we currently run regular practical work mornings at various sites around the borough:

  • Kilmorey Mausoleum, St Margarets Road (behind the brick wall almost opposite the Ailsa Tavern): every Saturday morning. Please call 07955 172 940 to check details
  • Vineyard Passage Burial Ground, Richmond (behind Vestry Hall): first Saturday of the month from 10.30 am. Contact the office for details.

Saturday 27th March Crane Park, Whitton Hedgerow planting and mulching in partnership with FORCE (the Friends of the River Crane Environment). This will be our first event in Crane Park, which was recently awarded a large grant for improvements by the Mayor of London, following a London-wide ballot. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF MEETING POINT: Meeting place is at the end of Mereway Road, where the Crane and Duke of Northumberland rivers meet. There is parking in Mereway Road.
Saturday 10th April Richmond Park Tree planting and rhododendron removal, in association with the Friends of Richmond Park. Meeting point to be confirmed.
Saturday 24th April Orleans House Gardens, Twickenham This fine natural garden needs regular maintenance and we will be helping the small group of volunteer gardeners there to lay woodchips and undertake other tasks for which a larger group is needed. Meet in the car park of Orleans House (close to Marble Hill Park – for those using Satnavs, the postcode is TW1 3DJ
Saturday 22nd May Kew Pond Aquatic planting (Note that this is the weekend before the bank holiday). Meet at the pond, which is on the east side of Kew Green.
Saturday 26th June Location to be confirmed Details to be provided nearer the time, but put the date in your diary!
Everyone is welcome at these events, although children under 17 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult. It helps us to plan things if you can let the office know at least 3 days beforehand if you intend coming. Please try to arrive promptly at the start for the initial briefing and stay as long as you wish. All you need is a pair of tough boots or shoes, some old clothes and a robust sense of humour!
