More growing space at the Model Market Garden

Topic: Jam Project

by Stephen James

Volunteers at the Model Market Garden in Marble Hill Park are taking advantage of the horticulturally quieter winter months to re-think part of the garden layout. Joining together two raised beds increases the cultivable area and creates an ideal space for cut flowers. Very timely, as our seeds order has just arrived from Thomas Etty.

Building the new flower bed

The bed is designed so that only existing materials are used with minimum cutting and waste.

When bolts have been fixed the bed will be ready for growing.

Page's Nursery (Hampton) box in use as a hamper for our tea and biscuits.

Similar boxes were in use in 1958 - these ones displaying lilies outside Page's.
