Richmond Environment Network

Richmond Environment Network (REN) is an umbrella project formed by a partnership between the Environment Trust and BTCV Richmond and the Thames Landscape Strategy, as the borough's Key Strategic Organisation for the environment.

REN’s objective is to provide a one-stop shop for support, information and guidance to organisations, groups and individuals, with the overall vision of enhancing the long-term sustainability of the environmental sector. The main focus of the network is on increasing volunteer numbers and the ability of local groups to achieve more of their aims.

REN provides a continually updated website, with a searchable database of groups operating in the borough and details of projects and initiatives that volunteers can join, as well as the following services:

  • Listings of environmental activities and events in the local press
  • A telephone information and referral service
  • Attendance at local fairs to promote participation in environmental activities
  • A biannual Open Spaces Forum for local groups to enable effective communication between the groups, REN and the council
  • Dissemination of training and funding information and advice for local groups
  • Promotion of the Guidelines for Volunteers and Voluntary Groups, covering health and safety, insurance, first aid and risk assessment
  • Assistance with the formation of new environmental groups in the borough
  • Representation of the environmental voluntary and community sector to statutory bodies
