Cleaning up the Thames foreshore
Cleaning up the Thames foreshore
Ham and Petersham Cub Scouts and Duke of Edinburgh Award students mixed with regular volunteers and staff to pick litter from the Thames foreshore on Saturday during the annual Draw-Off. This is the regular period in November when the tide is allowed to fall so that locks and other works can be maintained. Aside from making our beautiful river unsightly, litter such as nylon fishing line is hazardous to wildlife, and small pieces of plastic can wash out to sea adding to the pollution that threatens our oceans. The Port of London Authority provided a cage (pic below) for the forty bags of rubbish we collected and adults and children all enjoyed the muddy experience.
