Duke of Edinburgh students at Grove Gardens Chapel

Topic: The Environment Trust

by Stephen James

Grove Gardens Chapel is managed by the Environment Trust and during term time is let to a day nursery, The Children's Garden. Last year it was a constant battle to keep the brambles in check around the entrance. Blackberries are more tolerant of shade than many fruits but in a very shady area like this there is no harvest for foragers. The thorns, however, are very vigorous. Six students working towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award fought back the invading briars and revealed neglected graves in the process. Thanks to their hard work today there is more attractive approach to the Chapel and a better environment for all the people who use it.
