The Environment Trust for Richmond upon Thames was founded in 1984 with the mission to preserve, restore and find new uses for buildings and landscapes of historic interest and character within the Borough of Richmond, and to promote an understanding of and enthusiasm for the built and natural environment. It is the only buildings preservation Trust in the Borough.

Richmond has a unique heritage and landscape, and the Trust is working successfully in partnership with other local organisations to publicise it. Increasingly our work involves the organisation of major public events, such as Regattas, and sponsored walks and with the help of volunteers in environmental work such as riverside clean-ups.

The Trust is a registered charity, with active formal and informal links with national bodies, local government and businesses and voluntary organisations. It has several successful completed projects to its credit and has consistently three or four in progress. Its work is carried out by volunteers, whilst its office is staffed by a paid part-time administrator and her assistant.
