Membership and volunteering

Since its foundation in 1984 the Trust has been working to identify and restore buildings and landscapes of historic interest and character in the borough of Richmond upon Thames, and to find new and creative uses for them.

The Trust's membership is drawn from local residents and businesses, whose interest and support is invaluable. Members are offered a yearly programme of events including talks, visits to buildings or places of interest locally, musical recitals, art exhibitions and riverside clean-ups. They are offered the opportunity to volunteer as much or as little time as they have available to support specific Trust projects of interest to them or to help with organising of events or the general running of the Trust. All offers of help are welcomed and we make every effort to offer people interesting work in which we can utilise their existing skills. We have received a number of office volunteers through the bureau provided by Richmond CVS (Council for Voluntary Services), which is able to select volunteer jobs to complement the skills and experience offered by its users.

River Clean-ups

Come and join us! Volunteers are needed for enjoyable outdoor activities: weeding and clearing the towpath, cleaning steps and slipways, removing litter, pruning overgrown bushes and opening up important views, all in association with the Thames Landscape Strategy and Richmond Council. No equipment or qualifications needed, apart from a tough pair of boots and plenty of enthusiasm! Tools and gloves are provided, and groups will always have trained leaders. Some events for children include planting and exploring the fauna and flora of the riverside. Clean-ups usually happen on the last Saturday in the month.

The Trust's boathouse under St Helena Terrace on Richmond's Riverside has spaces available to rent for members' boats, also a Mirror sailing dinghy for hire. Contact the office for more information.
