About the Trust

We are an established landscape and buildings conservation charity caring for places and connecting to people of all ages and backgrounds across the Borough of Richmond and the wider London area.

Founded in 1984 we are at the heart of a famous area well-endowed with green spaces and historic buildings and benefiting from the River Thames. With 25 years experience of landscape and buildings conservation and public education, we are uniquely placed at the centre of a network of partners to ensure that this place is nurtured and conserved for future generations to enjoy.

Our purpose

To preserve and conserve open green spaces, wildlife and the best of the built environment and raise awareness of the issues that affect their survival. To enhance all people’s lives through inclusion, volunteering, education and learning about the local environment and inspiring them to take action.

Our vision

A place where natural beauty and diversity are looked after for the people of tomorrow by the people of today for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone.

Our mission

“We are all part of the problem, and each of us will need to be part of the solution”. (Sir David King and Dr Gabrielle Walker, “The Hot Topic”)

To help people understand that by thinking and acting locally to conserve the environment, its diversity and create resilience they are responding to the global challenge of climate change.

The Environment Trust for Richmond upon Thames is a registered charity, number 294869. It is a company limited by guarantee and registered in England, number 02030430.

Our Trustees

John Anderson

Most of my career as a HQ civil servant was about the future. In a variety of strategy and policy roles I was given jobs where change was wanted and tight deadlines were the norm. This continued in working for a local council in a big change programme going across the whole organisation.

I was very pleased when in 2008 I got the chance to join the Trust and apply that experience to help support it in a period of transition. Climate change and other environmental issues are common currency. I want to make sure the Trust builds on its reputation and looks forward to fulfilling a powerful role here and elsewhere in the future. The Trust is fundamentally about tomorrow.

Ann Callaway

My professional background is initially as a History teacher and Deputy Head in comprehensive schools in Hounslow and Richmond, and later as an HR manager in a multinational company.

I have lived in Teddington since 1970 and am delighted now to have the time to work with the Environment Trust in furthering conservation and understanding of the very special built and natural heritage which our borough enjoys.

Martin Davis

Martin Davis has been a member of the Trust for about ten years and active in voluntary charitable management for more than 20 years. He was educated at the West London Institute (St. Margaret’s Campus) and Birmingham University and has previously worked as a senior manager for the Metropolitan Police Authority, Hackney Council and is a former lecturer in criminology at London University.

He is now a director of Community Development Associates; a consultancy providing project and programme management and training in the fields of community engagement and crime and disorder reduction services.

Sally Gray

I have lived in Kingston on and off for 30 years. I have over 14 years’ experience in the field of Human Resources, in the private and public sector and consulting.

My work has ranged from some of world's most complex HR Transformation and strategic change projects to smaller coaching roles. I have set up my own company to work with organisations to advise on people and sustainability challenges. I have strong business skills based on many years working in consultancy and in setting up my own business. I am by nature a ‘project manager’ and I have a ‘get on and get things done’ attitude.

I have used my sporting side (I do Triathlons – training in Richmond Park and Ham Lake) to personally raise over £3,000 for charity. Having long been interested in sustainability, I am due to start an MSc in Sustainability and Change at Ashridge Business School. Becoming a trustee has been the perfect opportunity for me to bring my experience and interests to the Environment Trust and get closer to the community.

Tim Little

Tim Little

Tim is a business consultant and mentor specialising in Investors in People and communication technologies. He has spent much of his career working in the field of organisational development for companies such as Oracle Corporation and Cap Gemini Sogati. He now also works with small and medium sized businesses. He joined the trust because of his interest in using our valuable resources wisely and locally.

Cycling helps him to keep fit but could do better; doing a degree in history stops him from watching too much television; and aspiring to be an artisan baker of bread is slowly becoming a reality.

My professional career was originally as an architect, then subsequently in planning and urgan design, where i was a consultant in historic building and area conservation with local authorities and private practice.

My particular interest has always been in encouraging sensitive contemporary design in historic areas, including the definition of distinctive character as the basis for managing change.

I was head of the Conservation & Design section at Richmond Council for 15 years, and was one of the authors of the Thames Landscape Strategy. I have lived in the borough for 22 years and became a trustee in 2003.

Lynsey Stafford

Having previously been involved with the Trust for 9 months as Volunteer Coordinator, I saw first hand the benefits of what they do with the local community for the benefit of the environment.

I wanted to stay involved, and so when I found out that there were vacancies for Trustees, I jumped at the chance! Being a Trustee is a steep learning curve for me, but one that I am enjoying a lot.
