Richmond Bridge by Jim Woodman

SPECIAL OFFER – LIMITED EDITION PRINTS OF ONE OF THE ART AUCTION’S TOP-SELLING PAINTINGS FOR £55 EACH (plus p&p)

A delightful gift for someone you love, or a special addition to your own collection? This enchanting watercolour of Richmond Bridge was a top seller at last year’s Art Auction.

The painting was greatly admired and there were many disappointed bidders. We believe local artist Jim Woodman achieved something quite unique with his depiction of this iconic bridge. Jim recalls: 'It was a glorious summer's evening when I did the painting. I attempted to capture the rich mellow colours of the bridge reflecting the evening sun off the river. It was a tranquil, idyllic scene.'

We have decided to offer a limited edition of 100 high quality giclee prints on watercolour paper for just £55 pounds each, plus postage and packing. The overall size is A3 and the image size approximately 36 x 25 cm. Each print will be numbered and signed by the artist. They are supplied unmounted and in a protective tube.

Our sincere thanks to the artist for his kind permission to reproduce and sell these limited edition prints for the benefit of the Trust.

The painting's original page for the art auction is here, with Jim Woodman's biography.

About the Bridge

Richmond Bridge is a Grade I listed 18th century stone arch bridge in South West London. The bridge was built between 1744 and 1777 to the designs of James Paine and Kenton Couse as a replacement for a ferry crossing which connected Richmond Town centre on the east bank with its neighbouring district of East Twickenham (St Margaret’s) to the west. Its construction was privately funded to a tontine scheme, for which tolls were charged until 1859.

The eighth Thames bridge to be built in what is now Greater London, Richmond Bridge is currently the oldest surviving bridge over the Thames in Greater London and the oldest Thames bridge between the sea and Abingdon Bridge in Oxfordshire. Over the years Richmond Bridge has been the subject of paintings by many leading artists, including Thomas Rowlandson, John Constable and local resident J M W Turner.
