Active Environment
Supported activities for people with disabilities.
One of our goals is to provide environment related activities for everyone in our community. The Active Environment programme offers a range of local walks and activities for people with disabilities and their carers from March to December. All our walks and activities are in response to people's requests. We continue to develop the programme based on what they tell us about their experiences so there will be a mixture of favourite and new things to do.
Walks
We offer a range of short and longer routes so our walks are accessible to people with varying levels of fitness and mobility. We will usually go out whatever the weather and there are always refreshments along the way. Walks are guided by experienced leaders who can help people to learn about the local environment throughout the seasons. Some of our walks have included; Kew Gardens, London Wetlands Centre, Richmond & Hampton Riversides, an evening bat walk, the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park and the Crane Way.
Other activities
We also go skiffing at Thames Ditton and rowing on the Jubilant from Richmond. In the colder months we run environmentally themed workshops including making bird feeders and learning about felting.
During all our activities people take photographs which have previously featured in an exhibition. Recently photograps were used to make our first calendar which we then sold.

Funding
We are grateful for grants from the Goldsmith’s Company, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and the Richmond and Normansfield Foundation which enabled us to put on this programme.
