Young Place Shapers at work

It's been a busy few weeks for Young Place Shapers. A group came together during the Easter holidays to plant native, bee- and insect-friendly wildflower seeds at Canbury Gardens on a super sunny morning. With fantastic support from Quadron - who provide park services to the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames - and visits from lots of locals, everyone got down to work.

Stories of Our Park - media skills training opportunity

Young Place Shapers is very excited to be working with media production company, Digital Drama, on the Stories of Our Park project this spring.

Over three sessions, Stories of Our Park will train a group of young people in recording, interviewing and editing skills. They will use these new skills to go out and speak to park users at Canbury Gardens, Kingston, to find out:

  • what locals like about their parks and
  • why they are important to them

They will then work together to create an audio/ sound archive of their work.

Young Place Shapers joins the Environment Trust

Young Place Shapers (YPS) is funded by The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and receives donations from other supporters such as Kingston University. Young people’s achievements include creating a bee garden in Canbury gardens and wildflower planting in Kings Passage, Kingston upon Thames for which YPS received a neighbourhood grant from Kingston Council.

Through its riverside project ‘Bench with a view’ YPS helped Kingston win their first ever silver gilt award for London in Bloom in 2014.
